10DLC Registration & Regulations Guide

Overview

More businesses are turning to SMS as a key marketing tool to promote their services. To ensure compliance and reduce spam, mobile carriers, regulated by the U.S. Congress, have implemented 10DLC regulations.

10DLC is a verification process for business text messaging campaigns, managed by a third-party organization called The Campaign Registry (TCR).

Why Do Carriers Require 10DLC Regulations?

Mobile carriers and phone providers implemented 10DLC regulations to prevent spam and protect recipients from unsolicited messages. These regulations ensure that leads receive only expected messages, maintaining a safe and professional approach to business texting.

Benefits of 10DLC

  • Faster message delivery

  • Lower risk of being marked as spam

  • Enhances professionalism compared to short codes

  • Allows businesses to send SMS from a standard phone number

Who Is Affected?

  • All VoIP and A2P numbers (calls and messages sent through software or the internet).

What Needs to Be Done?

We need to register a text messaging campaign through The Campaign Registry (TCR). TCR is the official platform for registering A2P 10DLC messaging campaigns. It verifies that your business is legitimate and that your messages serve a valid purpose, ensuring reliable and scalable text delivery.

Text Request works directly with TCR on your behalf to ensure proper registration and smooth message delivery.

Who Will Handle the TCR Registration?

TYMBL will be responsible for registering businesses.

Ways to Register

There are two ways to register, both managed by TYMBL:

Option 1: Register Under TYMBL’s Campaign

TYMBL has a pre-approved registered brand and campaign. Businesses will be added under this campaign, letting carriers know that the business is represented by TYMBL’s messaging platform while maintaining their own Terms & Conditions.

Requirement:

  1. Businesses must add specific wording to their Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Example:

"(Company name) will not sell your personal information, and no mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. "Company name" is a "(a short description about what the company does and your objective or the type of business you do). Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Text HELP to (TYMBL phone number) for assistance. Reply STOP to cancel. Carriers are not liable for any delays or undelivered messages."

  1. Businesses must also update their website with the script below, preferably under the Contact Information page or in the footer, so that leads or clients can easily find opt-in and opt-out instructions.

Opt-in/Opt-out Script:

"(Company Name) values your concerns and inquiries. If you prefer to receive updates and assistance via text, text 'OPTIN' to (Tymbl phone number) to opt in and agree to receive messages from (Company Name). Text 'HELP' to (Tymbl number) for assistance. To opt out, text 'STOP' to (Tymbl number). Message frequency varies. Fees may apply. See our Privacy Policy and SMS Terms & Conditions here:(own company website’s link). Note: Carriers are not liable for any delays or undelivered messages."

Option 2: Register the Business’s Own Brand and Campaign

This option registers the business under its company name, rather than being represented by TYMBL.

Requirements:

  • Organization type (choose one):

    • Government

    • Nonprofit

    • Private Profit

    • Public Profit

    • Sole Proprietor

  • Legal company name

  • DBA or Brand Name (can also be the company name)

  • Tax Number/ID/EIN

  • Website

  • Business Type

  • Registered Business Address

  • Email Address

  • Business Contact Number

Note: Businesses must also include a similar privacy statement as the one provided in Option 1.

Cost & Timeline

  • Will this process cost additional? No.

  • How long will it take? 2-3 weeks. However, TYMBL can provide temporary SMS access using its approved campaign while waiting.

  • Why does it take so long? The campaign must be reviewed and approved by the service provider before submission to phone carriers.

How Will the Messages Look?

Notice that the " testing " message includes a disclaimer allowing the receiver to opt out and ask for help.

If you choose to run your SMS campaign under Option 2 above, the disclaimer will not begin with 'TYMBL' but will instead display the name of your own company or business.
